NCFL sought to create a free out-of-school resource for families to help combat the well-researched and documented effects of summer-learning loss. Building upon the Wonderopolis model, NCFL launched what is now known as Camp Wonderopolis in 2012. Each year's virtual Camp features a newly themed online-learning portal of 42 interactive Wonders full of fun STEM- and literacy-building content and activities. In the last two years, these Wonderopolis "Campers" have earned more than 33,000 Wonder Cards™—collectible badges of achievement —by passing informational text quizzes and mastering 80,000 vocabulary terms. All Camps created since 2014 are available year-round on Wonderopolis.org and are used by educators looking to extend STEM- and literacy lessons.
